"Matias Perez and his love for flying aerostatic aircrafts is part of Havana's lore. Matias symbolizes my longing to be ubiquitous in Havana's life and my quest for freedom." - Agustin Gainza

The Challenge of Capturing a Sunset

Sunset holds a special place in Agustín Gainza’s artistic journey, as it was the first sunset he ever painted.

Capturing a sunset presents a unique artistic challenge. Light changes rapidly, colors shift from one moment to the next, and every passing minute transforms the atmosphere.

It requires careful observation, sensitivity to color, and the ability to translate those fleeting changes onto the canvas.

In this painting, Gainza brings together the magical colors of the evening sky and the legendary figure of Matías Pérez, creating a work that celebrates both the beauty of a passing moment and the freedom of imagination.
